Information
The Child Care program
operates year-around from 6:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Monday through
Friday. All children are provided for in safe, well-equipped, cheerful
classrooms and a secure stimulating playground. Classrooms are air
conditioned and have computers. There are three, specific, individual
developmentally appropriate programs. Children who begin at LECC at age
three, may continue with the same classmates, through Primary Child
Care, Pre-Kindergarten Child Care, Full Day Kindergarten classes and
beyond. Children who then attend public school may participate in the
Before and After School program. In the Summer, our Full Day
program turns into a cultural experience as the children "visit" different
global locations each week. The weekly Moon Walk, Field Trip, Guest Visitor,
Sign Language Class, and Food Tasting seminar will give your child a something
to look forward to every day! The
continuity of the LECC program provides peace of mind for parents and
comfort for the children who attend. A well balanced hot lunch is
served in addition to 2 healthy snacks. Daily lesson plans and comments
concerning what your child ate and his or her general conduct are sent
home daily.
LECC prides itself for the well trained caring teachers,
along with excellent academic and social
programs. Social graces and skills, coupled with community awareness,
philanthropic experiences, essential for children, provide many
opportunities to relate to and understand, the special needs of others.
At no additional cost....LECC provides a valuable second language. Our trained sign language specialist
works with each classroom, every other week through out the year.
As part of our Character Counts initiative, the children
will be introduced to a variety of community service
members. Guest
speakers, such as the Dentist, Optometrist, Officer Friendly, Fireman
and Librarian, interact with the children and explain their roles
and services. Local visitors from various organizations bring animals
(reptiles, pets, and wildlife) into the classroom for additional
concrete experiences.
Philanthropic participation
provides opportunities for children to develop and
strengthen generosity traits along with other pro-social
values. During the holiday season, LECC has a special Gift of
Giving Program. Our facility takes pride in working as a team
(families, staff, and community) to join together to make the holiday
special to those in need. The children decorate cards and pack baskets,
which are
delivered to local agency's throughout Lake County. Used clothing and
toys are also collected and disbursed to local families in need. A new
toy drive is also conducted. Hundreds of new toys are delivered to
children in need in northern Illinois. The children's generosity is
acknowledged through an array of thank you notes from those who benefit
from their kindness. A wish list tree stands proudly in our hall for
families to fill holiday wishes for children in local foster care. Our
international connection includes our unity with the Abriendo Camino
school in the Dominican Republic. The Birthdays of Hope program gives
children an opportunity to donate there birthday gifts to help feed
children in Haitian schools.
Specific
Child Care Classes
Primary Child
Care
Serving 3-year-olds and young 4's
Children grow in appropriate development activities in the following
areas: cognitive, physical, social, and emotional. Language Arts skills
and an outstanding literature program, along with art and music are a
vital part of the children's curriculum. Alphabet Identification is
introduced following the pre-reading program set forth by Dorothy Taft
Wilson, a well known preschool reading expert. The "Math Their Way"
program provides a firm foundation of basic concepts. Appropriate
primary activities are geared towards entry to Pre-Kindergarten Child
Care. This program meets the need for balance between structured and
unstructured activities within the classroom and by ample periods on
the playground. Field Trips and frequent guests further extend
opportunities to grow.
Pre-Kindergarten
Child Care
Serving 4-year-olds and young 5's
Pre-K strengthens and reviews the Primary Child Care program and brings
it to higher levels. The curriculum expands to prepare the children for
Kindergarten entry skills. The Dorothy Taft phonics program builds on
the letter identification learned in Primary Child Care. Phonics are
introduced in isolation of letter names. Printing skills are refined.
"Math Their Way" continues with appropriate skills for this age
group. All areas of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional
experiences are tailored and scaffold to continue with programs
designed to instill a love for learning.
